What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31)
This Bible verse is well known. It is present in the truck bumper stickers, etc.. But the question is: Is God for us? Perhaps you may find odd question, but the scripture tells us: But unto the wicked God says: What are you doing to recite my statutes, and take my covenant in thy mouth? (Psalm 50:16). And this is what many are doing: They recite the Bible in wickedness and without any knowledge. There was a man whom God had promised to be with him but for a seemingly easy war, he had a defeat. This man is Joshua, chosen by God to lead Israel. The Lord said to him: Have I not commanded? Be strong and of good courage, fear not, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD your God is with thee wherever you go (Joshua 1:9).
After this statement to Joshua, the Lord opened the Jordan River that Israel went on dry land (Joshua 3:16) and gave victory over the great city of Jericho (Joshua 6). But in the ensuing battle the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six, and chased them unto Shebarim from the door to, and struck them on the descent, and the hearts of the people melted and became like water. (Joshua 7:5). J osué not understand what had happened, because God himself had assured him it would be with him. The Lord responds to Joshua that the people had disobeyed his orders, taking on some objects that were considered cursed. Israel has sinned, and transgressed my covenant which I commanded them, and took the curse, and stole, and lied, and under they put their baggage. (Joshua 7:11)
The Lord also said more: And the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they are cursed, I am no longer with you, if not destroy the accursed from among you. (Joshua 7 : 12)
Is God for us?? The answer is: If you do not get the curse, it will not be with us. So dear reader there circumstances in which God can not be for us. No use affirming faith in Christ and remain in error or sin. Although nobody can see or know, God knows. We can fool everyone, but never God. Where do I go from thy spirit or whither shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold thou art there. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee: but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and light are the same for you, (Psalm 139:7, 8, 12)
The anathema was well hidden (Joshua 7:21-22). No one knew of or had seen these objects, but Achan. So is the life of many people for more than hide his sin the bible says, know that your sin will find you. (Numbers 32:23)
Before declaring: If God is for us .... make sure there are anathema in his life.

I wonder then, has or has not broken the curse, as doctrine in the church?
Of course there is break the curse. Christ redeemed us from it (Gal. 3.13). If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9 KJV). He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy (Proverbs 28:13 KJV).
But the wages of sin is death. Not even Jesus can be for us if we insist on staying in sin. He is always waiting for our repentance and confession to forgive us and bless us. Following this story in Joshua's curse is taken and the people receive the blessing. Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it can not save, neither his ear heavy, that it can not hear. But your iniquities have separated between you and your God and your sins have hidden His face from you, so you will not hear. (Isaiah 59:1-2 KJV)
